Sedation options at Simply Teeth
At Simply Teeth, we aim to provide our patients with a positive dentistry experience. We understand that many people have developed fears and anxiety toward dental treatments for several reasons, such as:
- Fear of pain
- Sensitive teeth
- History of traumatic dental experience
- Complex dental problems
Many people avoid visiting the dentist due to an underlying fear. Unfortunately, the longer dental problems are left untreated, the more damage can be done. Because cavities do not hurt until they have reached the root of a tooth, frequent check-ups are strongly recommended to avoid minor issues turning into major ones.
We encourage you to let us know if you have any concerns or fears regarding dental treatments, even if you just feel a little anxious! We are always happy to discuss different options and come up with solutions.
Dentistry has come a long way, as have options for sedation. To provide you with the most comfortable treatment possible, we offer several sedation options to suit your individual needs. Sedation options are also available for professional scaling and cleaning.
IV Sedation
IV sedation (also known as Twilight sedation) uses an anti-anxiety drug that allows you to feel total relaxation. Intravenous medication will be administered to you by our experienced anaesthetist, who will also monitor you for the duration of the procedure. You are not entirely asleep but in a twilight state – midway between sleep and consciousness. Many patients do not recall the procedure and have even stated that it was the best sleep they’ve ever had.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is an ideal solution for anxious patients. It involves taking oral sedative tablets prior to your appointment to reduce anxiety and help you sleep better the night before your treatment.
Inhalation sedation
Penthrox is an immediate inhalable sedation option. It is a great option as it is short-acting, so you will recover much quicker from the sedation after the appointment.
